On Saturday the 22nd of November, we wrapped the short film ‘Freshers’ made with Oxford
University Filmmaking Foundation! A script written by a former student was developed by
myself, alongside the director, producer, and my co-cinematographer, starting around 6
months ago. The film tells the story of an Oxford student’s freshers’ week, before we join him
in the present and he meets a friend from that time, prompting a revelation… At the beginning
of this term, we completed pre-production and casting! In Week 6 we collected the
equipment, and shot roughly 10 scenes of footage, ending with a wrap party. The shoots were
freezing, so aptly captured the atmosphere of Michaelmas term, and encouraged many group
huddles. The accompanying image is from a bathroom scene, shot with our incredible actors
and small but mighty crew. This project was endless fun to plan, produce, make, and
experience, and I sincerely hope the final film shows our enthusiasm! I will endeavour to
publicise the premiere when it is confirmed. A huge thank you to everyone involved, and to
Oriel JCR for contributing funding!
